Cars, trucks, vans, we all use them . . . but we don't all know the consequences. Vehicles have always been a part of our lives, they help us get from place to place everyday. Over the years vehicles have become more affordable and more common. Probably most, if not all of you, have a car at home. With the massive increase in the amount of vehicles on the road there is a massive increase in the amount of gas exaust that they produce. Here are some of the shocking percents of types of exaust that vehicles put out.
àRoad vehicles are responsible for 51% of carbon monoxidde pollution, which is a chemical that reduces the amount of oxygen that can be delivered to our body's organs and tissues, which can be life threatening.àRoad vehicles make up 29% of hydrocarbon pollution, which is a chemical that cause damage to lung tissue and other respiratory problems.
àRoad vehicles make up 34% of nitrogen oxide pollutants.
àRoad vehicles make up 10% of particle matter air pollution.
As you can tell, you can thank vehicles for much of the pollution of our air. Whenever you drive to school, or sports or to your friends house you are emmitting these and many other chemicals into our atmosphere.
Think, how many vehicles do you see on the roads EVERY day, ALL day. How many of those vehicles do you think have more than 1 person in them . . . . hmmmmm. Most vehicles are meant for a least 4 people, but most of the time only 1 or 2 people are actually in the vehicles, using a lot more gas and emmitting a lot more chemicals than needed.

People already carpool to events and/or take the bus and transit or walk and bike, more often. We just need MORE people to help with this effort. We NEED YOUR suppost. This is one thing YOU can help with.
Unfortunally vehicle emmissions are not by any means the only form of air pollution, so come back and read more later.

Cool picture of the heavy congestion of traffic. really Neat!
